How do I know if I have a dead or weak battery?

Signs of a Dead Battery:
This would be obvious where the lights or radios would not turn on when the key is turned to the ON position. As you attempt to turn the car on, you will not hear anything coming from the engine.

Signs of a Weak Battery:
If the car battery is weak, you may still get lights and radios to turn on, but when you attempt to start the car, you may hear a slow engine crank or "click-click-click" noise. This generally means that the battery does not have enough power to start the engine and a jump start would be necessary to get the car going again.

In some instances, you might get lucky and start the car with a weak battery by holding down the button (if your car is a push to start), or holding down the key as you turn the key to start the engine. This may work sometimes after letting the car rest for a bit, but note that each attempt will further drain the battery.

A word about Starter issues:

If the lights and radios are on, but the engine does not crank then you may have a starter issue. This typically happens if the car is more than 10 years or older and has never had a starter replaced.

How to properly Jump Start a car?
Using Jumper Cables:

1. Park the cars next to each other and make sure the jumper cables are long enough to reach.
2. Prepare the jump cables and make sure that the positive end (Red) and negative end (Black) never touches each other.
3. Connect the Red end to the positive terminal on the source battery, and the Black to the negative terminal on the source battery.
4. First connect the Red end to the target battery, then connect the Black end to any bare metal under the hood. It is generally recommended to not connect the Black end to the target battery's negative terminal as the jump start will usually create a spark and can start a fire.
5. Start the car engine of the source battery.
6. Attempt to start the target car. Depending on the condition of the dead battery, you may have to wait a few minutes to let the battery charge befo
